50,000 rallied for preservation of public holiday
Tens of thousands of protesters gathered at Christiansborg Slotsplads in Copenhagen on Sunday in protest against the government’s bill to abolish the public holiday “Store bededag” as a public holiday – and thus a day off.
It was the trade union movement that had called for the demonstration.
Several union leaders spoke at the demonstration demanding the government to scrap the law and instead engage in negotiations between the unions, employers and the government.
The two danish singers Anne Linnet and Tessa provided the musical entertainment.
According to the organizers themselves, there were about 50,000 people present in front of Christiansborg.
