Six arrested for supermarket stabbing
On Wednesday, police arrested six youths charged with attempted murder in connection with an attack in a supermarket on Nørrebrogade in Copenhagen on January 27.
In the attack, a 22-year-old man was stabbed and was subsequently in danger of his life. One of those arrested is also charged with another attempted murder, as a witness to the attack was also stabbed, his life was also in danger.
The arrests were made as part of the investigation into the stabbings, which police believe are part of a clash between two groups from Nørrebro and Nordvest, respectively.
Those arrested are between 16 and 20 years old, and four of them were already in custody for other cases related to the disputes between the two groups. The other two were arrested at two addresses in Copenhagen.
“This is a very serious case and it indicates that the perpetrators have targeted the 22-year-old. At the same time, a completely random citizen was also seriously injured, and this says something about how violent these perpetrators have been, says Police Inspector Knud Hvass from the Copenhagen Police.
Those arrested are also charged under the so-called gang section of the Penal Code, which can trigger double jeopardy. They will be presented tomorrow in preliminary hearings, where the prosecution will ask for the doors to be closed.
