Mayors sign town-twinning agreement between Copenhagen and Kyiv
On Wednesday, the Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, and Kyiv’s Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, signed the twinning agreement between the two capitals.
It happened during a visit to Kyiv.
With the agreement, there is a common desire for cooperation, cultural exchange and help for sustainable urban development when Kyiv is to be rebuilt after the war.
-“In Copenhagen, we will do everything we can to help Kyiv and the Ukrainians. Friendships are incredibly precious in difficult times, not just in a human context, but also between two capitals. I am therefore incredibly pleased that Kyiv and Copenhagen are now twinned cities, says Lord Mayor Sophie Hæstorp Andersen (Social Democrat).
It was Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko who contacted the Lord Mayor with a request that Copenhagen and Kyiv enter into a twinning agreement. Although the City of Copenhagen has otherwise abandoned the conclusion of general twinning agreements, the municipality has departed from this principle due to the critical situation in Ukraine and the plans to enter into very concrete cooperation on reconstruction.
-“Today we signed the twinning agreement between Kyiv and Copenhagen. Denmark’s capital is an advanced modern European metropolis with high living standards and social security that protects its citizens, the environment and security. Kyiv is interested in Copenhagen’s experience and effective cooperation with the capital, says Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko.
