Today verdict will be announced in the Field’s Shopping Center Shooting Case
Today, the verdict will be announced in the case of the shooting at the Field’s shopping center.
The shooting took place on July 3, 2022, around 5:30 p.m. A 22-year-old man at the time opened fire on random people with a rifle he had taken from his father’s gun cabinet. Three people were killed, and several others were injured. After 13 minutes, the 22-year-old was arrested.
It subsequently emerged that he suffers from a mental illness, and minutes before the shooting, he had unsuccessfully attempted to reach out to the telephone counseling service at “Livslinjen”, which was closed for the holidays.
The now 23-year-old man is charged with three counts of murder and 11 counts of attempted murder.
The prosecution is seeking a compulsory psychiatric treatment order at Sikringen in Slagelse, where the most dangerous criminals are held. The defense is aiming for treatment at a closed psychiatric ward.
In addition to the decision on where the 23-year-old will serve his sentence, a ruling will also be made regarding compensation for the injured and the relatives.
The verdict is expected to be announced at 3:00 p.m.
