Intensifying border control after Quran burnings
The police are temporarily implementing heightened border control.
This is done based on a recommendation from the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) in response to recent incidents of Quran burnings and the development in the current threat scenario. Authorities assess that it is necessary at this time to strengthen the focus on individuals entering Denmark in order to counter the specific and current threats that Denmark is facing.
This means, among other things, that random border controls may be experienced during entry from Sweden and Germany in the coming period.
“The government takes the current situation very seriously, and the recent Quran burnings, as mentioned by the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET), have significance for the current threat scenario. I acknowledge that the authorities have assessed that it is necessary to enhance the police efforts at the Danish borders for security reasons during a limited period. From my perspective, the heightened border efforts underscore the gravity of the situation. The government and authorities are closely monitoring the developments,” states Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard.
The heightened border efforts are expected to be maintained until August 10, 2023.
