Danish PM on international top position: I say no if I am asked
The Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, has no intention of leaving Danish politics for the sake of an international top position.
She makes this clear in an interview with Berlingske.
The Prime Minister had long been rumored as the new Secretary General of NATO before the decision was made to extend the current Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg’s, term.
But there won’t be any international top position for Mette Frederiksen:
-“I was not about to leave Danish politics. And I have no plans to do so. What I can say is that if I were to be asked, the answer would be no,” she tells Berlingske.
Instead, she is ready to continue as Prime Minister after the next election – also in a continued government consisting of the Social Democrats, the Liberals, and the Moderates.
The current government made up of S, V, and M was formed after the parliamentary election on October 31, 2022. Therefore, a new parliamentary election will be held on October 31, 2026, or before that date.
