Read his Majesty the King’s speech from the balcony of Christiansborg Palace
After Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, at 3:00 PM, had proclaimed the change of throne from the balcony of Christiansborg Palace, King Frederik X delivered a brief speech. You can read the entire speech here:
“My mother, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II, has ruled Denmark for 52 years. Throughout half a century, she has kept pace with the times, grounded in our shared heritage.
She will always be remembered as a sovereign beyond the ordinary. My mother has, like few, managed to merge with her kingdom. Today, the throne passes on.
My hope is to become a unifying king for tomorrow. It is a task I have approached throughout my life. It is a responsibility I take on with respect, pride, and great joy.
It is a duty I will diligently perform and carry through the trust I encounter.
I will need all the support I can get.
From my beloved wife, from my family, from all of you, and from that which is greater than us. I face the future with the certainty that I do not stand alone.
Connected, committed, for the Kingdom of Denmark.”
