17-Year-Old Remanded in Custody Following Murder of 13-Year-Old Girl
The 17-year-old young man who was arrested late Monday night in connection with the murder of a 13-year-old girl has been remanded in custody.
North Jutland Police received a report at 10:10 p.m. that the 13-year-old girl had been found on Gravensgade in Hjallerup. Several police patrols and an ambulance were immediately dispatched to the scene, where the girl was subsequently declared dead.
The police took a number of investigative steps in the case, which, according to Deputy Police Inspector Frank Olsen of North Jutland Police, included interrogations, inquiries, cordons, technical examinations, dog searches, and various forms of evidence collection.
In connection with this, a 17-year-old young man and a 13-year-old girl were arrested in the case. The girl was subsequently released and, according to the police, has nothing to do with the murder.
The 17-year-old was presented in a closed-door preliminary hearing at the Court in Hjørring on Tuesday, charged with murder and rape of the 13-year-old victim. The court chose to remand him in custody for four weeks. The remand was appealed to the High Court.
According to Deputy Police Inspector Frank Olsen, the investigation continues at full speed.
-“We are dealing with a murder investigation, so we are extremely thorough. Therefore, we still have a lot of work ahead of us in clarifying the various details of the case. We need peace to do that,” says Frank Olsen, highlighting that there are still witnesses to be interviewed or re-interviewed, and additional evidence needs to be secured.”
