City council gives green light to new Novo Nordisk factory in Odense
A large majority of the members of the city council in Odense gave the green light for the construction of a new Novo Nordisk factory at its meeting on Friday.
The factory will be located in Tietgenbyen Nord, where the project area covers approximately 81 hectares. The area is currently designated for commercial use but has not yet been developed.
It is expected that the new factory will carry out subprocesses for Novo Nordisk’s actual pharmaceutical production, which takes place at other locations.
According to the plans, Novo Nordisk’s future activities at the site may include facilities for assembly of components for pens, packaging of finished products, plastic molding of components for pens, tablet production, or other similar auxiliary functions for drug production, such as warehouses, laboratories, and pilot activities.
The facilities will be established over a longer period, initially focusing on establishing a facility for packaging of finished products with associated supply systems, as well as administration and other support functions. Production buildings are expected to operate around the clock and year-round once operations commence.
