Kasper Hjulmand is resigning as the head coach of the Danish national men’s football team.

This was announced by the Danish Football Association (DBU).

The decision to step down as head coach was Hjulmand’s own and comes after the UEFA European Championship, where Denmark was eliminated in the round of 16 after a 2-0 loss to Germany.

“It has been an incredible honor and privilege to be the coach of our national team for four years. I have given everything I had to achieve success and to unite the people around the team. Representing one’s country is the greatest thing I can imagine, and I will look back on a fantastic time with great support for our dream. As I look ahead to the World Cup in two years, I can feel that it would be best for the team for a new face and new ideas to come in, to write a new great chapter for this fantastic team, and therefore, it is best for someone else to lead the team forward. It’s not about me. It’s about what is best for the team,” said Kasper Hjulmand, who has completed four years as the national team coach.

Morten Wieghorst will be the interim head coach until the new year.
