Solbjørk Minke Anderson will not attend the Olympics after an accident
Danish cyclist Solbjørk Minke Anderson is out of the Olympics even before the games have officially started.
The reason is that she was unintentionally hit by a car during a training ride at home in Denmark in the early afternoon on Thursday. According to Team Denmark, this resulted in a broken collarbone, and Solbjørk Minke Anderson therefore cannot start at the Olympics.
“We are incredibly sorry on Solbjørk’s behalf and wish her a speedy recovery,” says Morten Bennekou, the elite chief of the Danish Cycling Union, adding:
“She is a rider in rapid development and had the Olympics as one of her main goals for the season, so it is truly unfortunate that she will not be able to live that dream. The accident means that we now make a substitution in the team, and instead, it will be Rebecca Koerner who will compete.”
Danish road race champion Rebecca Koerner is now preparing to travel to Paris as part of the Olympic team, which also includes Emma Norsgaard Bjerg and Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig.
“We truly empathize with Solbjørk. It’s a shattered dream for her, and we were looking forward to seeing her on the roads in Paris. Fortunately, she is young, so we hope she gets a new Olympic opportunity in four years when the games are held in Los Angeles,” says Søren Simonsen, the chief de mission for the Danish team.
The road race will take place on August 4th. Prior to that, there will be an individual time trial on the 27th, where the Danish women will compete with Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig and Emma Norsgaard Bjerg. Solbjørk Minke Anderson was not scheduled to participate in the time trial and had therefore not arrived in Paris yet.
