Copenhagen Police are introducing two stop-and-search zones in Copenhagen following an ongoing violent gang conflict, which as recently as Thursday night resulted in the death of a 43-year-old man in a shooting incident in Nørrebro.

It is the police’s assessment that the conflict is between two criminal gang groups, one of which is based around Inner Nørrebro and the area around Holmbladsgade in Amager. The other group does not have a fixed base immediately, as it is primarily controlled from abroad.

“We cannot and will not accept the gangs’ acts of violence in Copenhagen, and therefore we do everything we can to prevent similar incidents. Stop-and-search zones are an important tool to ensure that gang members do not carry firearms or other weapons,” says Chief Police Inspector Søren Thomassen.

Copenhagen Police assess that there is the greatest likelihood of further incidents related to the conflict occurring in the two stop-and-search zones. Additionally, in the areas covered by the zones, a number of melee, stabbing, and firearms have previously been found and confiscated.

The stop-and-search zones are currently in effect from today, Friday, August 9th at 5:00 PM, until Friday, August 23rd at 5:00 PM.

In the stop-and-search zones, the police can conduct random checks of individuals and vehicles, without needing to have a specific suspicion of criminal activity.
