Man found dead in a small lake under suspicious circumstances
On Sunday morning, a man was found dead by a passerby in a small lake in a green area on Skanderborgvej in Aarhus C.
The passerby reported the discovery shortly before 11 o’clock, after which several patrols and ambulances were sent to the scene to investigate further.
When the police arrived a few minutes later, the fire department was already on the scene, recovering a lifeless man from the water. Subsequently, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor.
Shortly after, the deceased person was identified as a 48-year-old man from Poland who did not have a fixed residence in Denmark.
The deceased man did not appear to have been subjected to violence or assault, but other circumstances surrounding the death still seemed suspicious, prompting the police to cordon off a larger area around the waterhole.
In connection with the police’s initial investigation of the case, it was assessed that the 48-year-old man had possibly been at the scene with several other individuals leading up to his death.
“We have been working intensively at the scene since Sunday morning and conducted a wide range of witness interviews with neighbors, passersby, and people associated with the environment in the green area where the 48-year-old was found deceased in a pool of water,” said Chief Police Inspector Flemming Nørgaard from East Jutland Police.
Two men arrested
Later on Sunday afternoon, first a 35-year-old man was arrested at 13:45, while a 40-year-old man was also arrested later in the afternoon in connection with the police investigation of the suspicious death.
The two individuals were released on Monday at noon as East Jutland Police had received the autopsy report on the deceased 48-year-old man.
The autopsy report did not indicate any signs that the 48-year-old man had been a victim of a crime, but rather that he had likely died as a result of an accident.
