Pia Kjærsgaard Retires from the Danish Parliament
Pia Kjærsgaard will not be running for re-election in the next parliamentary election.

The 77-year-old founder of the Danish People’s Party first entered the Danish Parliament in 1984 representing the Progress Party.
In 1995, she parted ways with the Progress Party and started the Danish People’s Party, of which she served as leader from its inception until 2012, when Kristian Thulesen Dahl took over the position.
Pia Kjærsgaard served as the Speaker of the Danish Parliament from July 2015 to June 2019.
