35-year-old remanded in custody after fatal accident

A 35-year-old man, charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter following a traffic accident in Tranbjerg, south of Aarhus, where three people lost their lives, has been remanded in custody.

The accident occurred on the country road on Wednesday at around 10:10 p.m. during an overtaking maneuver, in which the 35-year-old collided head-on with an oncoming car carrying five elderly people. This happened at a speed of 114 km/h in an area where the maximum allowed speed is 80 km/h.

Three people, aged 77-87, lost their lives, and two others, aged 78 and 79, were seriously injured.

The 35-year-old was subsequently arrested at 11:03 p.m. a few hundred meters from the scene and charged in the case. He was later taken to the hospital for treatment.

On Thursday afternoon, he was presented for a preliminary court hearing in absentia at the Aarhus District Court, as he was still hospitalized and unable to attend court physically. After being discharged, he was presented in a new preliminary hearing on Saturday.

During Saturday’s hearing, the 35-year-old was remanded in custody until October 23rd.

A court-ordered name ban has been imposed in the case.
