Woman remanded in custody – charged with promoting the Islamic State
A 27-year-old woman has been remanded in custody, charged with violating multiple terrorism provisions in the criminal law.
The woman arrived on Thursday evening at Copenhagen Airport with her 8-year-old son after an extended stay in Syria, where she had traveled in 2014 and joined the Islamic State.
Upon arrival at the airport, she was arrested by officers from East Jutland Police. Her son was handed over to social services, who are now taking care of him.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been responsible for coordinating the evacuation from a camp in northeastern Syria and for the transportation to Denmark.
“The arrest took place without drama, and our officers arrested and charged the woman, after which she was taken to Aarhus. An investigation into the case is now underway, which will likely take some time,” said Deputy Police Inspector Flemming Nørgaard from East Jutland Police.
On Friday morning, she was presented in a remand hearing, and the court decided to remand her in custody for four weeks.
The woman has reserved the right to potentially appeal the remand.
