Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will be on a state visit to Denmark on Friday and Saturday of this week.

He will be accompanied by his Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty, Minister of Trade and Investment Hassan El-Khatib, and an Egyptian business delegation.

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will be received by the King and Queen, marking the first comprehensive state visit for the royal couple from a non-European country.

Diplomatic relations between Denmark and Egypt date back to 1922. Today, Egypt is an important strategic partner for both Denmark and the EU, playing a significant geopolitical role in the Middle East and Africa. Moreover, Egypt is an important partner in climate efforts with ambitious policy targets and substantial potential for green transformation. Denmark and Egypt also have a long-standing collaboration under the Danish-Arab Partnership Program, focusing on youth and job creation in Egypt.

The shared Danish and Egyptian interests are reflected in a strong and broad bilateral cooperation that will be further reinforced during the visit. This includes the commercial sphere where a Danish-Egyptian trade forum will be launched, featuring participation from Danish and Egyptian companies and decision-makers.

The state visit comes shortly after the introduction of the government’s Africa strategy “Africa’s Century,” aiming to foster equal dialogue and partnerships to enhance Danish political, diplomatic, and commercial engagement in Africa.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen officially visited Cairo in the spring of 2023, and Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen visited Egypt in September 2024.
