Animal Rights Protest at McDonald’s Opening in Nørrebro
Animal rights organization Anima marked Wednesday morning McDonald’s return to Nørrebro with a protest. Among the first customers in line at the fast food chain’s newest restaurant was a giant chicken and activists from Anima, who initiated a protest against the burger giant.
Anima criticizes McDonald’s for reneging on its promise to phase out turbo-chickens. According to Anima, McDonald’s declared in 2020 that all turbo-chickens would be removed from the menu by 2024. However, this has not happened and it has sparked outrage at Anima.
“I think it’s embarrassing for McDonald’s to back out of a clear commitment to drop turbo-chickens. McDonald’s continues to sell millions of factory-farmed chickens, and it is completely incomprehensible at a time when there is broad consensus that turbo-chickens simply are not okay,” said Mathias Madsen, campaign manager at Anima.
