Three Consecutive Years Without a Single Bank Robbery in Denmark

Read Time:1 Minute, 28 Second

Not a single bank robbery was committed in Denmark in 2024. This continues the trend from 2023 and 2022.

This was reported by Finans Danmark, an interest and employer organization in the financial sector.

Instead, criminals have turned to digital methods, with robberies often occurring through individuals’ computers or phones.

According to Finans Danmark, one of the crucial reasons for the absence of bank robberies is that Danes and banks are using significantly fewer cash than just a few years ago.

Attacks on ATMs have also been largely absent in recent years. Only a single ATM explosion in 2024 marred an otherwise spotless year.

“It is good news to start the new year with. However, unfortunately, we can also see that crime has become more digital in line with societal development. So, it is not surprising that criminals follow the money and now focus their efforts on deceiving Danes into transferring funds from their private accounts to the criminals’,” says Michael Busk-Jepsen, Director of Digitalization at Finans Danmark.

With digital crime comes a need for increased vigilance from all of us.

“We all need to be alert and critical of what we are presented with. Today’s bank robber doesn’t have a gun in their pocket but is instead armed with persuasive language, convincing unsuspecting Danes to transfer their money to another account – namely, the criminal’s,” says Michael Busk-Jepsen.

And there is one particularly important piece of advice to remember:

“Your bank, the police, or whoever the criminal pretends to be will never ask you to transfer money to another account. If someone asks you to do so, your alarm bells should ring because it’s the bank robber at play, digitally and right in your living room,” says Michael Busk-Jepsen.
