A 17-year-old Swedish boy has been sentenced to eight years in prison by the Copenhagen City Court for attempted murder.

The then 16-year-old boy was hired through the messaging service Telegram in July last year to travel from Sweden to Denmark to kill someone.

Armed with a pistol, he unsuccessfully visited several addresses in Copenhagen on the evening of July 31 to find the person he was hired to kill. At 9 p.m., he arrived at Blågårds Plads in Nørrebro, where he was approached by two young men. There, he pulled out a gun and fired a shot without hitting anyone. Shortly after, he was arrested near the crime scene.

“The convicted individual explained that he regretted his intentions during the evening and did not shoot to hit anyone. The court did not believe that explanation,” said special prosecutor Andreas Emil Christensen.

In addition to the prison sentence, the 17-year-old boy has been expelled with a permanent entry ban.

A 31-year-old woman, who was also accused in the case, was found guilty of possessing three firearms and sentenced to three and a half years in prison.

She accepted the sentence while the 17-year-old Swede requested time to consider a possible appeal.

A third person, a 28-year-old Swedish citizen, is accused of recruiting the 17-year-old, enticing him with payment, instructing him, and helping him contact accomplices.

The 28-year-old is imprisoned in Chile and has been requested for extradition to Denmark.
