Tip: Use Salt for Cleaning and Dishwashing

Read Time:1 Minute, 9 Second

Salt can be used for more than just cooking. It is also effective for cleaning and washing more stubborn items.

Cleaning pots and pans: Sprinkle some coarse salt in a dry pan or pot and rub it with a dry cloth or brush. The salt will act as a scrub, helping to remove food residues and dirt. Rinse the pan or pot thoroughly with hot water and soap when you are done.

Cleaning surfaces: Mix salt and a little water to make a paste and use it to scrub tables, sinks, and bathroom tiles.

Cleaning glassware and dishes: If you have dishes that are stained or discolored, you can try using a mixture of salt and baking soda. Dampen a sponge with water and dip it in the salt and baking soda mixture. Gently rub on the stained areas until they are removed. Rinse the dishes thoroughly with hot water and soap and dry them with a clean cloth. This tip is useful, for example, for removing tea stains from mugs.

Note that coarse salt or sea salt works best for cleaning as it has a coarser texture than fine table salt. It is also important to remember not to use salt on materials that may be damaged by its scrubbing effect, such as plastic and delicate surfaces.
