Former School Employee Charged with Rape of a Minor

A former employee of Søholmskolen in Birkerød is currently in pretrial detention, charged with rape and threats against witnesses. This information was provided by Rudersdal Kommune in a press release.

According to the municipality, the individual in question is a 27-year-old man.

The 27-year-old was remanded in custody for 14 days following a preliminary hearing at the Lyngby Court. During this hearing, the Prosecution Authority of Nordsjællands Politi (North Zealand Police) stated that the 27-year-old is accused of raping a girl under the age of 15 and making threats to witnesses, both of which allegedly occurred in 2022 in Birkerød.

On Thursday, the municipality decided to establish a hotline and has simultaneously requested that the law firm Poul Schmidt initiate a legal investigation.

-“We are dealing with a very unfortunate and terrible case involving a former employee at Søholmskolen, Bistrup branch, the full extent of which we do not yet know. Due to a court-imposed reporting ban, we are limited in what we can disclose publicly. However, to ensure that every aspect of this case is thoroughly examined, we have already decided to set up a hotline and initiate an external legal investigation. I understand that this is a matter of public interest, but I urge everyone to help protect the school’s students and staff,” said municipal director Birgitte Lundgren.

The investigation will shed light on any possible shortcomings in the school’s previous leadership and the municipality’s oversight responsibilities regarding the school. As part of the investigation, the law firm will establish an external whistleblower mechanism in the hope of uncovering all relevant information.

Since the remand of the 27-year-old, several initiatives have been launched, including counseling sessions for children and a meeting for the school’s parents, with crisis psychologists also participating. The municipality’s new hotline can be reached at 46 11 10 25.
