Denmarks Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister react to the assassination attempt on Trump
Both Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen have reacted to the news that the former President of the United States, Donald Trump, was the target of an assassination attempt.
Donald Trump was shot in the right ear during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday evening local time. Images from the event show Trump with a bloody ear. Seconds after the shot, security personnel rushed to the stage, protected Trump, and then escorted him to safety.
One attendee at the rally died, and two others were critically injured.
The suspected perpetrator was shot and killed by the Secret Service. According to the FBI, the perpetrator was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
An attack on democracy
On the social media platform X, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen wrote on the official profile of the Prime Minister’s Office:
“Horrified to hear the news of shooting at a rally in Pennsylvania. Such political violence is completely unacceptable and has no place in our societies. My thoughts are with
@RealDonaldTrump (Donald Trump’s X handle) and his loved ones and with the families of the killed and the wounded.”
Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen issued the following statement via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Twitter profile: “I am horrified by the attack on former President Trump. An attack on a presidential candidate is an attack on democracy itself. I wish Trump a speedy recovery, and my thoughts are with all those affected by the attack.”
