Three men were remanded in custody on Sunday, charged with rape and deprivation of liberty committed against a 37-year-old woman.

According to the charges, the rape occurred on Saturday in an apartment in Aarhus C, where the men refused to let the 37-year-old woman leave for several hours.

The woman eventually managed to escape and seek help, and East Jutland Police received the report on Saturday at 1:08 p.m. Shortly after, the three men, aged 35, 33, and 27, were found in the apartment and arrested.

According to the police, initial investigations suggest that the woman met the men on a night out before Saturday and went up to the apartment with them. Further investigation will now clarify the sequence of events and determine if there were more perpetrators involved.

“These are serious offenses that the men are accused of committing, and therefore it’s a case we take very seriously. We are fully engaged in the investigation and cannot rule out further arrests in the case,” says Deputy Police Inspector Flemming Nørgaard of East Jutland Police.

The pretrial detention hearing took place behind closed doors, and the court decided to remand the three men in custody until August 30th.
