Six men have been sentenced to between one and a half years and two years and seven months in a case involving the cloning of a wide range of exclusive cars.

The verdict was delivered on Thursday at the Court in Helsingør (Elsinore).

The court found proof that the six men were involved in trafficking and cloning a total of 32 cars from 2020 to 2021. The cloning process involved removing the original chassis number from stolen cars, including brands like BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Lamborghini, and Land Rover, and then engraving a new fake chassis number into the cars.

The new chassis numbers in each case matched cars that were registered as duty exempt, as they were registered with so-called border license plates in the Motor Registry. Subsequently, the cars were inspected and re-registered in the Motor Registry with the fake chassis numbers.

The court also established that one of the convicted individuals had abused their former position as an inspector to fabricate a new inspection report, making the cars appear legal and enabling them to be sold at a profit.

The perpetrators were collectively convicted of over 100 charges of trafficking, forgery, embezzlement, bribery, and tax evasion.

Senior Prosecutor at NSK, Laura Jensen, is satisfied with today’s verdict:

“This case is one of the most extensive cases ever in Denmark concerning car cloning. With today’s decision, we have shown that the police and the prosecution will crack down hard on anyone attempting to profit from the circulation of stolen cars. This should certainly not be a business model, and I am pleased that the court has also imposed significant penalties on the convicted individuals.”

The six men were also fined additional amounts ranging from 163,000 kroner to 2,732,000 kroner. Furthermore, the court ruled that the six men must pay a comprehensive compensation claim to the victims who had their cars stolen.

The inspector was disqualified from inspecting cars for 5 years.

Two of the men received a warning of deportation.
