Police strengthen efforts in border areas

After a dialogue with a number of police districts and the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET), the National Police has decided to strengthen the police efforts in border areas.

This follows incidents where two hand grenades were thrown near the Israeli embassy in Copenhagen and shots were fired at the Israeli embassy in Stockholm.

“The recent developments unfortunately confirm that the terrorism threat to Denmark is serious. We are closely monitoring the current situation, assessing its significance to the overall threat picture, and continuously implementing the necessary security measures,” says Chief Police Inspector Peter Ekebjærg of the National Police.

The strengthened police effort focuses on preventing and combating criminal activities endangering individuals and will be carried out through random checks of vehicles and arrivals at the borders with Sweden and Germany.

The strengthened effort will impact the Copenhagen Police and the North Zealand Police in relation to the border with Sweden, meaning that the police will be even more present at, for example, the Øresund Bridge. Additionally, more cars, trains, and ferries arriving from Sweden will be inspected in the coming period.

At the same time, the South and South Jutland Police, as well as the South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police, will have a corresponding strengthened focus as part of the ongoing temporary border control with Germany.

This is a temporary effort that the police will continuously evaluate the need for.
