Now you can buy fireworks – but when can you set them off?
From today, December 15, it is possible to buy fireworks – however, it is not allowed to ignite them yet.
The period during which private individuals may ignite fireworks has been further shortened this year compared to previous years. This year, fireworks may only be ignited on December 31st and January 1st.
Regarding the restricted ignition period, branch manager at the Danish Safety Technology Authority, Nicoline Zederkof Jensen, says:
“It is important to adhere to the new, restricted ignition period. For many people and animals, fireworks are not a source of joy, as the loud bangs, for example, can lead to panic and anxiety.”
Remember Safety
The Danish Safety Technology Authority recommends storing fireworks in a dry and not too warm place until they can be used on December 31st.
Nicoline Zederkof Jensen also encourages people not to forget about safety on New Year’s Eve and to remember to wear protective glasses, both when igniting fireworks and as spectators, and to remember other fireworks safety advice to avoid firework-related injuries.
“Last year, we had 192 registered cases of firework-related injuries. The majority of injuries affected children and young people. Therefore, it is very important for all of us to remember to take care of each other, wear safety glasses, and maintain a safe distance. No one should spend New Year’s Eve in the emergency room and start the new year with life-long consequences,” Nicoline Zederkof Jensen adds.
