 DMI upgrades warning: Hurricane-force gusts

The Danish Meteorological Institute, DMI, has upgraded its warning Sunday evening for a part of North Jutland from category 1 – severe weather to category 2 – dangerous weather.

The warning now states that for the municipalities of Hjørring and Frederikshavn, a storm of 25-28 m/s from the west is expected, with hurricane-force gusts of 33-35 m/s. This is considered category 2 – severe weather and is valid from Sunday evening at 11:00 PM until Monday at 3:00 AM. Subsequently, gale-force winds of 20-23 m/s from the west are expected with storm-strength gusts of 25-28 m/s in the two municipalities until 8:00 AM on Monday morning. This falls under category 1 – severe weather.

The storm has been named Sif.

For the municipalities of Thisted, Jammerbugt, Brønderslev, and Aalborg, a category 1 warning – severe weather has been issued, as DMI expects gale-force winds of 20-23 m/s from the west with storm-strength gusts of 25-28 m/s. This warning is valid from Sunday evening at 11:00 PM until Monday at 8:00 AM.

For Bornholm, a category 1 warning – severe weather has been issued valid from Monday at 4:00 AM until Monday at 9:00 AM. Here, DMI expects gale-force winds of 20-23 m/s from the west with storm-strength gusts of 25-28 m/s.
