Frederiksen after summit in London: Europe must arm itself
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen participated in the summit in London on Sunday along with several other leaders from Europe and Canada.
During the meeting, discussions took place regarding continued support for Ukraine, the necessity of arming in Europe, and the desire for peace in Ukraine.
Frederiksen provided an update on her Facebook profile after the meeting. She wrote, among other things:
“Denmark proudly stands behind Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. I could once again convey this to President Zelenskyy, who participated in today’s meeting. And in that, we are far from alone. Support for Ukraine remains. We all agree on that.”
Furthermore, she listed three things that she believes should be done now:
“We must strengthen Ukraine as much as possible: Deliver weapons. Enhance their defense industry.
At the same time, we must weaken Russia’s war economy. With more and tougher sanctions.
Russia is a large country. But Europe’s economy is significantly larger. We must remember that. And it is now that we must capitalize on that strength.
Therefore, the third point is also that we must use our economic power to become stronger militarily.
Europe must arm itself. We do not want war. We must avoid it. Therefore, we must be able to deter Russia from attacking Europe again.”
