Narcotics smugglers sentenced – imported large quantities of amphetamine to Denmark
With a verdict against three persons on Wednesday, a total of 61 years of imprisonment has now been imposed in a case involving large quantities of amphetamine smuggled from Holland to Denmark.
One of the convicted individuals is a 36-year-old man from Holbæk, who was sentenced to 16 years in prison on Wednesday for importing large quantities of amphetamine.
This was confirmed by the Midt- og Vestsjællands Police.
“This is a case where smuggling of very large quantities has taken place over more than half a year. Therefore, the prosecution’s demand was that the main person in the case should receive the maximum penalty under the law,” says senior prosecutor Louise Varberg from the prosecution for Midt- og Vestsjælland.
The case began when the Danish Customs Agency in Kolding intercepted two deliveries totaling approximately 53 kilograms of amphetamine in January last year. These were intended to be sent to addresses in Holbæk and Mørkøv using a courier service.
Subsequently, the Midt- og Vestsjællands Police launched an investigation in close collaboration with the Southeast Jutland Police. Based on this, the 36-year-old was charged with smuggling an additional approximately 295 kilograms of amphetamine into Denmark. Much of the drug trade had been pre-arranged via the Signal messaging service.
Two women aged 43 and 41 were charged with participating in the smuggling of parts of the drugs. They were each sentenced to 12 years in prison on Wednesday.
Plea agreements have been reached in two cases within the same complex. A 35-year-old man received a 14-year prison sentence in May last year. And a 34-year-old man received a seven-year prison sentence in September last year for his role in the case.
“Today’s verdict puts the final stop to the case against an organized amphetamine ring in Holbæk. The convicted individuals are locals who are now out of the picture for many years, and we are very pleased with that,” says investigation leader, Police Commissioner Michael Andreassen.
The 36-year-old man who was sentenced on Wednesday chose to consider whether to appeal the verdict. The two convicted women filed appeals for acquittal. All remained in custody after the verdict.
