Denmark’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen is visiting Indonesia today and tomorrow.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs is scheduled to meet with Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs among other engagements.

The trip will mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Indonesia.

During the trip, the Foreign Minister will sign a new and ambitious action plan for closer cooperation between Danish and Indonesian authorities, of great value to both parties.

The Foreign Minister will also reach an agreement to extend the strategic energy cooperation between Denmark and Indonesia.

Several concrete cooperation agreements between Danish companies and Indonesian partners, particularly in the energy sector, will also be signed.

The visit is a prime example of how the government is working to translate the desire to create strong and equal partnerships into reality.

Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stated:

“We live in a more tense world with escalating tariffs and less predictability. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen ties with partners across the globe. Indonesia is a heavyweight in Southeast Asia, and we have both a geopolitical and commercial interest in building an even closer relationship with them.”

Among other activities, the Foreign Minister will visit a maritime surveillance center where satellites from the Danish company Gomspace are planned to be used to monitor activities in the waters off Indonesia’s coast and further in the Indo-Pacific region.

The trip also includes a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) based in Jakarta. As part of the government’s strong focus on strengthening Danish partnerships in the world, it is a priority to enhance Denmark’s ties with ASEAN, a point the Foreign Minister will emphasize in the meeting.

Indonesia is the largest economy in Southeast Asia and the only G20 member in the region. Indonesia is also the fourth most populous country in the world and home to the largest Muslim population. In the fall of 2024, Indonesia became part of the BRICS cooperation.
